Hanks had son Colin Hanks (also an actor) and daughter Elizabeth with first wife Samantha Lewes before their 1987 divorce. That same year he began a relationship with actress Rita Wilson, marrying her in 1988 — nearly 40 years and counting, one of Hollywood's most enduring marriages — with two more sons, Chet and Truman, forming a blended family of four children. Wilson is of Greek and Bulgarian descent and was raised Greek Orthodox; in 2019 the Hanks family received honorary Greek citizenship for their deep ties to Greece. The couple were also among the first prominent public figures to test positive for COVID-19, in Australia in early 2020.
