Helen Mirren was born in London in 1945, the daughter of a Russian aristocratic émigré, into a family of modest means. Mirren met American director Taylor Hackford in 1985 while filming White Nights, and after years together they married in 1997 — nearly three decades and counting, with no children. Hackford directed Against All Odds and Ray, and the couple are regarded as one of Hollywood's few enduring marriages built on mutual professional respect and support. Mirren has publicly said she does not regret not having children, considering her acting career to be the calling she has devoted herself to fully.
